Personality Testing

The first thing to do is take the personality test.

the nicname should be kota, age should be 23, Sex should be male

The URL: http://www.personal.psu.edu/~j5j/IPIP/ipipneo300.htm

Important Notes:

– You must take the 300-item version because the shorter test gives incomplete results. Only the long version gives complete results about each facet, which you’ll need for this assignment.

– Don’t linger on a question. Answer quickly and move on to the next. If you think too much, the test will time out and you’ll have to restart it. Answer questions based on when you are comfortable and able to be yourself. Unless a question specifies “when you’re at work,” don’t answer based on how you are when you’re at work, for example. Most people are a bit different from their normal selves when they’re at work.

– Read your results and the facet descriptions carefully. Factors and facets might not mean what you guess they mean. For example, I scored “0” for “friendliness.” That doesn’t mean I’m unfriendly. It’s just that I’m not naturally expressive towards other people. I don’t do the “HEY, WHAT’S UP DUDE!” stuff. Given a choice, my natural greeting is a silent nod, lol.

– Remember this is a free test that has not been fully validated in the same way the NEO-PI has. Don’t take your results seriously. In fact, you should always trust your own knowledge of yourself more than the results of any personality test. If you think your results are wrong, they probably are wrong.

– SAVE your FULL results to turn in. If you don’t save your results right away, you’ll have to retake the test. There’s no way to recover your scores after closing the results page.

Take This Personality Test

1. The Big 5 Factor Model divides personality into 5 separate factors (in all caps, like EXTRAVERSION). In the NEO-PI and IPIP-NEO, each factor is then divided into 6 facets (like friendliness). Don’t mix those up: factors and facets. Take the full 300-item version of the IPIP-NEO personality test, which is based on the Big 5 Factor Model (see pp. 473-475):

2. Save your FULL test results.

Then Answer These Questions

Answer the following questions. Submit your question responses AND your test results. Responses will be graded for completeness and clarity.

1. Based on your own results and how you thought/felt during the test, would you say the IPIP-NEO is generally valid or generally invalid? Explain your answer and give at least 1 specific way the test could be improved. (~1 paragraph total).

Notes: “Make the test shorter” is a bad answer because that would lower the test’s validity. Don’t say make the test longer either. Think of a different way to improve the test. Also, “Personality can’t be measured” and “people can lie, making the test invalid” are bad answers. Aspects of personality have been scientifically measured for a long time. And while it is possible to lie while taking the IPIP-NEO, that’s not a problem with the test. If a test-taker decides to lie, that’s an issue with the test-taker. The IPIP-NEO does NOT check for consistency or truthfulness. It only rephrases questions to see if your score should be 62/100 or 63/100, for example.

2. Choose 4 *facets* (not factors!) from your test results. For each facet, give an example of that aspect of your personality in action (1-2 sentences per facet, 4-8 sentences total). For an example answer, re-read what I wrote above about my score of 0 in friendliness.

3. Finally, what aspects of personality are NOT measured by the IPIP-NEO? In other words, can you think of any aspects of personality that are not mentioned in the Big 5’s factors/facets? If you can’t think of anything, it’s ok to say so. You won’t lose points. But don’t leave your answer blank. At least put a “0.”

4. Remember to submit your test results too! How you submit them is up to you (copying and pasting them into the textbox, submit a second file, etc.). Just make sure it’s in a format that I can open. Don’t use Google Drive links or upload .pages files.
