Purpose: The Writing Diagnostic Essay helps you and your faculty team determine the current level of your written communication skills. Effective writing at CGSC is understandable in a single rapid reading and is generally free of errors in substance, style, organization, and correctness. Faculty members will evaluate your essay according to the standards on the attached rubric.
Assignment: ADP 3-0 Operations describes the requirements for successful execution of unified land operations including “…well-trained, cohesive teams and bold, imaginative leaders.” Likewise, FM 3-0, Operations states, “Leaders at every echelon are expected to display the initiative necessary to assume prudent risk while taking advantage of opportunities that present themselves under ambiguous, chaotic conditions.” With this in mind, write an argumentative essay that responds to the following question:
What is the one personal characteristic which you, as a field grade leader, most wish to improve during your study at the CGSOC and why?
To clarify, your submission should be an argumentative essay that clearly states the characteristic on which you intend to focus and then justifies your position. In other words, what is the one characteristic you want to improve and why do you want to improve that particular characteristic. Your essay will be assessed based on how well you defend your stated thesis and how well the essay conforms to the Army writing style.
