architecture history essay

Building such as the Pyramids at Giza, the Parthenon, the Pantheon, Hagia Sophia, Selim II/ Selimiye Mosque, Chartres, Villa Rotonda to name just a few are considered seminal buildings. Scholars continue to be drawn to these buildings as they try to understand not only how the buildings were constructed but also how they reflect the society that commissioned and used them. In some cases their original purpose has given way to a new one. How has that impacted the building? What is the status of the building today? Select two of the buildings to discuss. There is no need to compare them.
