A discourse community uses a specific lexis.
This refers to the jargon specific and unique to a community, It is actually required by the members of that community for intercommunication. Artists, for example, have a specific lexis used to explain tools, techniques, and mediums. Biologists use a different lexis from Marine Biologists, but each community has its own lexis.
