Tasks:

1.     Join or Watch a Synchronous Collaboration Session: Participate in the synchronous meeting in week 5. If you are unable to participate synchronously, you may watch the video of a session and contribute asynchronously to the group work.

 

2.     Group Research: Work with your group to identify a field or academic discipline that your group is interested in studying. Together decide and research:

a.     What field are you writing about?

b.     Who will your audience(s) be?

c.     How will researching this topic be useful for the authors and intended audience?

d.     What kinds of writing do people in this field of work do?

e.     What audiences do they write to?

f.      What unfamiliar genres may you need to learn as you enter this field?

g.     What are the most important principles of writing in this field concision? Clarity? Depth of research? Methodology?

h.     Where and how do people conduct research in this field, and how is the credibility of sources determined?

As a group, use the answers to these questions to draft an introduction for your group research project

3.     Source Analysis Table. With your team on one google doc, complete the Source Analysis Table. You may work synchronously or asynchronously as group members prefer.

 

4.     Create your Infographic:

a.     Using Canva, create an infographic to share your key findings and additional resources about writing in this field with your intended audience. Keep in mind your rhetorical purpose, and use appropriate visual elements such as graphs, tables, charts, or illustrations, and limited large chunks of text. Also use visual rhetoric to help the audience understand how to read and use the infographic.

b.    Make sure that your infographic contains links to the sources you used in a genre-appropriate style, as well as any other places that readers might look for additional information

 

5.     DraftIn the Unit 3 Discussion, Post a 250-500 word response to Task 2, your completed Research Community Analysis, and your Infographic before the synchronous workshop. One post per group, and be sure to include the names of everyone in the group in the post.

 

6.     Workshop Either as a part of the synchronous workshop in Week 6 or on your own, offer revision suggestions and feedback to any two (for an A or B, 1 for C or P) groups infographics.

 

a.     If working asynchronously, comment directly as a reply to another groups infographic. Explain what you think works well in their introduction, table, and infographic and why, then also offer a few suggestions for specific ways they can revise. Address both content and design in your feedback, and explain why you think these revisions will help them better achieve their purpose in writing for their audience.
