09 Nov Argument Essay
In your third essay, you will be writing and developing an argument. It can be of your choosing, but if you are struggling to
find a topic, you might consider picking one related to your major. Your audience will be a scholarly audience that are not experts on
the subject. You will pick a position, develop it with your own arguments, and provide a rebuttal for a counterargument. To further
develop your position, you will use 4 reliable sources to incorporate into your essay.
For example, if I wanted to argue that Los Angeles should invest more money into public transportation, I will use reasons to
defend (e.g. public transportation will reduce emissions, not everybody can afford to buy a car, etc.), and anticipate any counter
arguments to argue against (most Angelenos have cars).
Your paper will be 4-6 pages, with a clear thesis, one counter argument and rebuttal, 4 reliable sources, and a works cited
page. Avoid topics that are too large for this project (e.g. the death penalty, abortion, etc.) or any topic that has been overdone (gay
marriage, legalizing marijuana, global warming etc.)
