Organizational Culture

Morgan (2006) states that we must "Root our understanding of organization in the processes that produce systems of shared meaning. These shared frames help us see that organizations are in essence socially constructed realities that are as much in the minds of its members as they are in concrete structures, rules and relations" (p. 137). Observe the day-to-day functioning of your organization, its culture, subcultures, and the behavior characteristics of the people. Assume the role of an anthropologist, as if you were an outsider, to analyze the culture of the organization. Pay particular attention to the functional units and their interaction, conflicts, and collaborations and how these subcultures operate within the larger cultural environment. Evaluate how these various cultures develop their own personas and perspectives and how these functional entities come to view their own identity and self-interest. Use scholarly readings to support your observations.
