Finding secondary sources for your research project. Commodity is TIMBER
Find four reliable (Links to an external site.) secondary sources on your commodity. Then create an annotated bibliography (Links to an external site.).
Tip: Look for secondary sources that build on your primary sources. E.g., secondary sources that refer to the topics/themes of your primary sources.
Then, here are suggested steps for finding secondary sources.
1. If you found any secondary sources encyclopedia article bibliographies you used earlier, they may be a good place to start. (Do not use encyclopedia, reference, or “dictionary” articles for this assignment–those are tertiary sources.)
2. The Global Commodities database also has some secondary sources listed under “Further Resources,” and “Data & Maps” but be sure to find and cite secondary sources only for this assignment. https://www.globalcommodities.amdigital.co.uk/Introduction/TheCommodities

3. If you look online you may only use reliable sources (Links to an external site.)–look for expert articles and websites written by trusted sources. Do not use encyclopedias or sketchy websites. I will not accept sources that are not reliable and professional. If you aren’t sure about a source–ask me!
4. Create an annotated bibliography (Links to an external site. of your four sources: Give a full citation in Chicago or your major’s preferred style (look to see if a citation is provided for you or use a style guide Links to an external site.). For each source write a brief description of the source answering:
What does it specifically examine?
Who wrote it? Why is this source reliable?
How does the source help your research?
Note: list your sources in alphabetical order by author’s last name.
5. Spell-check and proofread your bibliography then upload it to the drop box.
Sample citation and annotation:
Davidson, Hilda Ellis. Roles of the Northern Goddess. London: Routledge, 1998.
Davidson’s book provides a thorough examination of the major roles filled by the numerous pagan goddesses of Northern Europe in everyday life, including their roles in hunting, agriculture, domestic arts like weaving, the household, and death. The author discusses relevant archaeological evidence, patterns of symbol and ritual, and previous research. The book includes a number of black and white photographs of relevant artifacts.
