Your task:
You have read two memoirs over the course of the semester (Yezierska, Bread Givers and
Moody, Coming of Age). Both speak to the challenges young adults face and highlight their
protagonists’ attempts to seize opportunity in different places and time periods.
For this paper, we want you to compare the memoirs and write a 4-6 page paper addressing
the following question:
Compare and contrast (i.e. identify similarities and differences) the Yezierska and Moody
memoirs. How does each define “the American Dream” and what struggles does each young
woman face as they seek to achieve their goals?
