The purpose of the Research Paper is for you to culminate the learning achieved in the course by gaining further insight about the Texas Legislature. The focus will be on the role that Representatives from the Texas House play in our state.  You will have an opportunity to apply knowledge learned throughout the course and see politics in action. This paper will give you the opportunity to interview a Representative from the Texas House. The interview may be  over the phone, via zoom or e-mail. You will produce a four- to five-page paper with a minimum of five resources, three of which are from sources that are peered reviewed. The due date of the paper is on the class syllabus.

At a minimum, the paper shall accomplish the following:

1. In this section you should have a thesis statement that is clearly defined (0.5 page)
2. Explain the role that legislators have in the Texas State House. In this section, you should describe the role that the legislators and the legislature have in Texas. You should also go over the requirements to be a state Representative in Texas as well as the powers of our Texas legislative branch (one page).
3. A detailed description about the interview and what you learned from this experience. You should explain the reasons as to why you selected your representative. You should also explain the process to interview the legislator (0.5 page).
4. Offer a historical background about the Representative’s road to political empowerment (political career) (one page).
5. Offer the Representative’s views on education and your view on the representative’s views on education. Please leave this question open ended to allow the representative to give you a broader answer (one page).
6. Conclusions drawn from research and scholarly sources that provides the reader with an understanding of the assignment (0.5 page).
