09 Nov SW 740: Direct Practice I Final Paper
Write a paper analyzing a case from your practicum. Omit any client-identifying information. For
intervention, choose Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. (For purposes of
this paper, either you might actually have worked with the client in this manner, or you can envision how
the work might have proceeded, if you had done so.) The paper should be 9 to 10 pages (not including
title and reference pages) and in APA 7 format. Use the four headings in bold below. You may use first
or third person. Cite relevant literature, with a minimum of five references . please look over the attach rubric this professor grades on the rbric. I have him for three classes. If you score high A on this paper I will send you the other two term papers.
Include the following: brief description of the presenting problem; client strengths and vulnerabilities;
mental status exam (including all six categories as described in the Shea text).
2) Interventions
Utilize an approach below to apply clinical interventions for this client.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Provide an overview of CBT. Explain your reasoning for using this approach with this client.
Describe at least four CBT techniques you might employ with this client, and explain your
choices. One of these techniques must be a thought log or case conceptualization sheet that you
fill out. This will be one page of your total final.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Provide an overview of DBT. Explain your reasoning for using this approach with this client.
Describe at least four DBT techniques you might employ with this client, and explain your
choices. One of these techniques must be a DEAR MAN or chain analysis sheet that you fill out.
This will be one page of your total final.
3) Multicultural issues
Identify at least one multicultural issue which impacted (or could have impacted) your practice with this
client. Discuss how you would ensure the provision of culturally competent care.
4) Termination
Describe the termination process with this client. If termination did not occur optimally, discuss what
could have been done differently.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you are not meeting individually with clients or do not have enough information for the above, then
approach this assignment in the following manner: identify one client with whom you have interacted,
and expand on your actual interaction with them. Use the facts you know from your limited interactions,
and develop the interventions in a way that you think would be realistic.
