Case Study Research: Steve is a 24-year-old male with social anxiety and feelsdepressed/stressed. He feels very anxious when he is in a big group of peopleand cannot speak when being around strangers. Steve is currently in college, and his stress level is very high when attending classes. He misses the days ofclasses where he knows theres a debate or presentations. He avoids reachingout to his professors to salvage his grades for the semester. Steve has limitedfriends and has been very shy thorough his teenage years. He is always anxiousspeaking to new people; he cannot concentrate on conversation because heconstantly worries about their thoughts. Steve also assumes that hes notwanted and feels like he is boring. As he got older, he started isolatinghimself, and he would turn down any invites last minute from his friends andfamily to hang out. He plays video games all day and would not come out of hisroom if guests were at his home. He would start ignoring phone calls as wellwhen his friends and family calls him. His concerns about how others view himare what drive him to engage in these avoidance behaviors.
