Social Problems Essay

Choose ONE of the following and develop it into a meaningful and persuasive essay.  Be sure to establish authority, include examples and personal experience, focus on your thesis throughout, and engage your audience.

 Do you believe that America is a class society?  How so?  Discuss the different classes within America and what they are based on.  Be sure to indicate what distinguishes one class from another.

 What class are you a member of?  Upper?  Middle?  Lower?  Working?  Other?  Explain your response to the question.  Do you plan on remaining within your class, falling lower, or rising up out of your current class?  Explain.

 Choose a country, research it, and compare/contrast it with the United States.  Based on the knowledge gained, would you prefer to live a country other than the U.S.?  Explain why or why not?

 Write an essay either defending or arguing against the proposal that drug addicts be sent to rehabilitation centers rather than to prison.  Begin with a clear thesis and support your points with evidence from valid experience or expert testimony.

 Write an essay in which you describe and explain the damage alcohol or drugs have inflicted on our culture.  Conclude with an appeal for help to cure the problem.

 Write an essay relating any encounter you have had with, or have heard someone else tell about, drugs.

 Describe an experience you had with online dating.  What are the pitfalls or advantages to meeting someone on the internet?

 Write an essay comparing and contrasting the Ellis Island immigrants with the undocumented immigrants entering our country today.  Consider such aspects as the countries’ histories, ethnic differences, and levels of poverty.

What, in your opinion, is the most serious and widespread social problem in America today?  Identify and discuss this problem outlining its causes, effects, and any possible solutions.
