Independent Research Project: 10–12 pages (double-spaced) Identify a topic of your interest. You can choose one of the topics covered in class or find another topic that is relevant to the course material. In choosing the topic of your interest, you can consult academic sources. Find academic literature that is relevant to your topic.You MUST also use some of the material studied in class and in the course readings. In addition to that, you are free to find additional academic sources. (NOTE: Wikipedia is not a scholarly source and will not be accepted as a cited source). Summarize the literature and identify how it addresses your research question. Explain how the topic you are investigating can be examined using the material studied in class. Consider the role of culture, society, community, and the state. You may also want to interrogate the role of both national and local politics, engage questions of gender, social organizations, social movements, public opinion, media, and individuals in thinking about your topic. Your paper must not be more than 10–12 pages long; title page, references, and *appendix (*if any) are not included. Do not exceed the page limit. Your paper should have the following components: Introduction – Summarize the goal of your paper and the research question that you willbe addressing. Include a brief summary of your paper and your major arguments. Literature Review – Summarize the existing academic standpoint on the issue you are investigating and explain how your research fits within the literature. Analysis – Integrating the findings from the literature with your own ideas, provide an analysis of the research problem. Summary and Conclusion – Summarize your paper and your major arguments. References – Use APA/MLA referencing format
