Toy Analysis

Write an analysis of a toy or game.  Pick one toy/game.  What age is it designed for? How does it address the physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional developmental needs of a child? What theory or theories can be applied to the toy and its nature of play? Papers should be 2-3 pages long (600-850 words).  Do not pick Barbie or toy guns. Choose a toy/game you like; if you choose one you don’t like, you’ll end up ranting and completely miss the requirements of the paper.

  • You are analyzing the toy/game, not how you or your kid/nephew/niece plays with the game and if they like it.
  • Choose one toy/game. Not all of toys in general. Not a game system (i.e., not the Xbox system, but you can choose one game for it, like Mario Kart).
  • Your paper will be in 5 paragraphs:
    • introduce the toy or game and how it’s played
    • describe how the toy meets a child’s physical needs
    • describe how the toy meets a child’s cognitive needs
    • describe how the toy meets a child’s socio-emotional needs
    • explain what theorist would recommend the toy/game and how it fits into their theory.
  • Look at the rubric posted on the assignment page. This is what I will be using to grade it.

Papers must be 600-850 words long, double-spaced, 1″ margins, and uploaded below. Please run your spell-check beforehand! Try reading your paper out loud. This is a great way to catch errors. If you don’t know how to upload your paper, read these instructions.

College guidelines on plagiarism are strictly enforced. Original work is expected; copying off the internet is considered plagiarism. Quoting a source is fine when necessary, but sources must be cited.
