Assignment 1c: Self-Care and Ministry Research Paper

Objective: Describe why self-care is crucial in chaplaincy ministry.

Instructions

This whole course is predicated on the fact that the Bible mandates self-care. As a maturing believer it is not an option. Chaplains need to be diligent in practicing self-care and take the initiative to do so. You as a chaplain will be pretty much “out there” working for a secular organization. You need to take the initiative to do your own self-care practice. That in a sense is a benefit because it requires you to be pro-active. If you do not manage your own self-care, no one is going to do it for you.

Write a 3 to 4 page paper that identifies several self-care insights. Apply these to your current ministry situation if you have one, or your future ministry setting. Be specific. Typical chaplaincy specialties are healthcare, military, corrections, and first responders (police, fire, EMS).

Use the articles referenced above as well as two scholarly sources found in databases or the Internet that support your writing.
