You are nearing completion of the research methods sequence of courses. When you began this journey most of you indicated you hoped to complete research that would create policy change or lead to the development of new policy. Reflecting on your work in the Program thus far, and in particular the knowledge of research methods you have gained please answer the following questions:
1. What is evidence – based policymaking? Is it necessary to rely on evidence or research to create policy?
2. Using an example explain how program evaluation may inform policy reform or evidence – based policymaking.
Overview
In this module you will read a paper from the MacArthur Foundation. In this reading you will focus on the connection between evaluation programs and the policymaking process. You will engage in a discussion with classmates that allows you to apply what you have learned to the question of how program evaluation connects to policymaking.
