By Chapter 5, we’ve gotten to see how Adler would address challenges facing a democratic socialist society. In Chapter 6, he further elaborates upon his proposal, arguing that democratic socialism is up to the challenge of addressing the six crises. Evaluate Adler’s argument. Some questions you might consider are: are there any obstacles to democratic socialism which Adler does not address? Are there any which he does not effectively respond to? What social or economic forces are at the heart of his democratic socialist society–how is this thing supposed to work? What’s the logic of that system? For a given crisis that you care about and think needs to be solved, how successful is Adler in demonstrating that democratic socialism is the solution. (You may draw on evidence or arguments used in later chapters)
