06 Jan Which mathematical application have you used the most in your life, or would be the most useful? How can math help you solve problems?
In the past several weeks, you have learned how to solve linear, rational, and quadratic equations (among many others). You saw several applications such as interest, mixtures, uniform motion, rate of work, proportions, geometry, physics, grade averages. Of course, there are many more!
For your discussion, reflect on the applications of math equations we have covered so far in the readings, videos, and homework. Which mathematical application have you used the most in your life, or would be the most useful? How can math help you solve problems? Explain your reasoning. Follow this up with a made-up word problem for your application of choice.
Here is a list of applications we have seen so far in the class:
Percentages
Rates
Simple Interest
Mixtures
Uniform Motion
Geometry – Area, Dimensions, Pythagorean Theorem, Volume
Distance – Projectiles, things dropped from heights
Formulas
Compound Interest
Skid marks
Proportions
