1) Which of the three elements of punishment (certainty, swiftness, and severity) do you feel is most important for deterrence of crime? (State why and provide evidence)
2)Compare two of the five correctional perspectives/goals of punishment (retribution, deterrence, incapacitation, rehabilitation, and reintegration) using the four following components: justification of the perspective (why is this an important part of penal sanctions?), strategy of the perspective (why does this work?), focus/subject of the perspective (who is it targeted to?), and viewpoint of the perspective on what offenders are (how does it treat the offender?).
