Exam Content
This week, you will continue to evaluate diplomatic skills used during the negotiation process by participating in a fictional scenario for an NBA contract negotiation. This week’s assignment is broken into two parts: a research phase and a proposal phase.
Review the Negotiation and the NBA Case Study between Jordy and Leilani.
Research the series of historic negotiations that took place in the 1998–1999 NBA Lockout. This exercise will help you sharpen your skills of gathering information and drawing conclusions based on the evidence you collect. Gather research that provides information on:
Organizational context of the NBA
Important details relating to the interests of the teams and the players
Nature of their professional relationship
Optional research may include players’ salary negotiations or additional content to further support your case.
You will take on the role of Jordy’s agent. Develop a proposal that advocates for Jordy’s financial and career interests. You will present this proposal at the meeting with the Honolulu Hawks’ executive leadership.
Create a 6- to 10-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation and integrate the following into your presentation:
Devise a structure that addresses the major facets of Jordy’s case that is both comprehensive and convincing.
Include these important topics:
An introduction/brief
Jordy’s value to the Honolulu Hawks
Jordy’s issues being on the team
Potential options Jordy and the team can pursue
Counterarguments the team’s upper management may make
Jordy’s BATNA
Select a technique to help you present Jordy’s case in the most effective manner:
The RADPAC Model
Rhetorical Devices
Psychological Negotiation Tactics
Integrate the concepts learned about negotiation and your research from the NBA Lockout to help design your approach for the presentation.
Use Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Sway, or other alternative presentation software of your choice. If using alternative software, convert to PDF before submitting.
Include speaker notes or recorded audio/video for each slide.
Cite at least 2 credible references beyond your textbook to support your assignment.
