05 Mar Professional Quality of Life Scale Worksheet
CNL-545 Topic 1: Professional Quality of Life Scale Worksheet
Directions: Learning how to self-assess for vicarious trauma and burnout is important. After all, when you begin practicing, you will likely be the only clinician in the room. An effective tool for assessing vicarious trauma and burnout is the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) Scale.
For this two-part assignment, you will complete and score the ProQOL-5 and then respond to the prompts below.
Part One: Complete the ProQOL
Download and complete the ProQOL and scoring instructions.
Part Two: Short Answer Questions
Provide short answers of 200-300 words each for the following four questions/statements. Do not exceed 350 words per response. Use the textbook and any other scholarly resources to support your responses when appropriate and be sure to maintain a professional tone. Add a reference section if applicable. You are encouraged to use first person voice (i.e., I, me, and my).
1. Summarize your results of the ProQOL. Be sure to report your compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary stress scores. What is your initial reaction to these results?
2. If you earned scores indicative of burnout/secondary traumatic stress, discuss your thoughts on them here. If you did not score high on these scales now, imagine how your scores may be different once you actively begin practicing trauma work.
3. Identify two self-care and/or professional practices that may help mitigate burnout and secondary traumatic stress.
4. Identify two ways in which the ProQOL is relevant to trauma and crisis work. How might you use this assessment in the future?
