Chapter 2 of T.R. Reid’s book discusses four functional models (Bismarck, Beveridge, National Health Insurance, and Out-of-Pocket), each with its own strengths and weaknesses. In general, the U.S. has poor health outcomes despite having excellent health treatments options. Whether this is the fault of our overall healthcare systems or other factors is hotly debated. Often times in this debate the successes health outcomes in other countries is referenced, but comparative policy analysis can be very messy. ——-When discussing healthcare, is this a functional way to evaluate policy?
