Chapter 2 of T.R. Reid’s book discusses four functional models (Bismarck, Beveridge, National Health Insurance, and Out-of-Pocket), each with its own strengths and weaknesses. In general, the U.S. has poor health outcomes despite having excellent health treatments options. Whether this is the fault of our overall healthcare systems or other factors is hotly debated.
