The eight steps of accurate coding are to identify the main terms in diagnostic statements, locate maing terms in the alphabetic index, reviewing any subterms under the main terms in the index, following any cross-reference instructions, verify the codes selected from the index in the tabular list, refer to any instructional notations in the tabular index, assign codes to the highest levefvel of specificity, and code the diagnosis until all elements are completely identifed (J.K., 2022, pg.74). I feel that each step makes sure that we are able to identify, understand, and assign the correct codes for each diagnosis.
