Not only do ELL families need appropriate and equitable access to technology to improve educational outcomes for their students, but they also need educators who are mindful of their technology needs and can identify supportive practices.
Part 1: Digital How-To Guide
Create a 2-3 page digital how-to guide for general education teachers that provides best practices for supporting ELL families in their use of technology. You may use any web-based tool to create your guide such as Canva or Prezi. Include the following:
Questions to ask ELL families related to their access and familiarity with technology.
Minimum of 2-3 potential barriers to the use of technology at home for ELL families. Provide at least one solution for each barrier.
At least 3-5 tips or strategies for promoting digital literacy in ELL families.
Best practices when communicating with ELL families using technology.
Part 2: Reflection
In 250-500 words, reflect and rationalize your choices within your digital how-to guide. Within your reflection, explain how you plan to support ELL families in utilizing and accessing technology in your future professional practice.
Support your assignment with 3-5 scholarly resources.
Ensure that others can access and view the link to your digital how-to guide prior to submission.
Submit your reflection and a link to your digital how-to guide in one document.
