Brainstorming
1. First, read the I-SEARCH PROJECT OVERVIEW and I-Search Project Topics & Thesis Statements wiki pages thoroughly.
2. Next, read the “Freewriting” section on the Prewriting Strategies wiki page.
3. Finally, free-write and submit two FULL pages on a possible I-Search topic that you want to explore in-depth over the next 5 weeks. Remember, the topic should have special meaning and significance to you.
Wait – Before you freak out about that “two FULL pages,” understand that freewriting is not formal writing but rather a stream of consciousness writing without structure or grammatical rules! Read that sentence again. And, it doesn’t have to make sense to anyone but you. The objective is to simply write without stopping for @ 5 minutes. It’s like brainstorming out loud on a page. If you slow down, pick up the speed by writing a word or phrase over and over until a new idea emerges.
After you finish, circle or highlight text that you like and that stands out to you for its originality. For this assignment, you may submit a pic (.jpeg, .png) of handwritten pages or two double-spaced typed pages.
