Texas Governor Gregg Abbott believes that hormone blockers and other medical interventions typically prescribed for transgendered children constitute child abuse. He has directed Child Protective Services (CPS) to investigate the families of transgendered children. Some families with transgendered children are preparing to leave the state, fearing they will be charged with child abuse and have their children taken from them.
