25 Jul Models of Federalism Discussion
Overview: In this short paper, you have an opportunity to consider which model of federalism best explains the policy that you selected for your final project. This assignment supports progress toward your final project, as one of the critical elements is to provide examples of how models of federalism as a form of democratic governance manifest in the policy you selected. Comparing different models of federalism relative to your selected policy is also an opportunity to examine the shifting powers between the federal and state governments.
In this paper, include the following:
– A brief overview of the different models of federalism: the coordinate authority model, the inclusive authority model, and overlapping authority model
– A rationale for the federalism model manifested in the policy that you selected for your final project (or any other policy)
– Your sense of which decision-making model (rational or ad-hoc incremental) seems to fit with how decisions are made with regard to this policy
