Assignment 7b: Valuing the Perspectives of Others Discussion
No unread replies.11 reply.
Objective: Identify and understand key life issues.
Sometimes when we are using course textbooks, we fail to take in the fact that some of the things the author is suggesting may in fact be somewhat radical. So for example, Tennent makes this very strong assertion, “We can no longer afford the kind of entrenched sectarianism that has often characterized fundamentalism and evangelicalism” (p.269).
Instructions
Review the readings in Tennent from Weeks 3, 4, and 5.
Week 2 Tennent text, pp. 135-160
Week 3 Tennent text, pp. 193-218
Week 5 Tennent text, pp. 221-272
Using these readings as well as any relevant biblical support, identify at least five specific points where Tennent avoids sectarianism and shows a willingness to value the perspectives of others. In concluding your post, answer this question: do you think Tennent’s approach is a good one, or is there a reason to be cautious about Tennent’s example and advice?
Write a 300-word post discussing this approach. As always, be sure to include information from appropriate biblical and/or theological texts with proper citations.
