This is a big question! But each of this week’s readings speak to this question in some way, addressing various issues and meanings of marriage in different historical/cultural contexts. As you respond to the prompt above, you might consider:
What is marriage for?
How do ideals and practices of marriage differ for various people, groups, or cultures?
What is the relationship between marriage and power?
What are your preconceived notions of marriage and love? How have the readings for this week challenged those notions?
What expectations do you have for marriage in your own life? Do your friends or family have expectations for you?
