- First, make sure you read Chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12 in their entirety.
- Carefully examine the following: Figure 10.1, Figure 10.5, Map 10.1 in the book, and, especially, this handout: Lifetime earning by educational attainment race sex (especially Figure 6 and 7). The handout is dated, but it demonstrates some things I want you to be aware of. [If you’re using REVEL, you can use the search tool in REVEL to find the appropriate figures and maps.]
- Discuss your thoughts and ideas as a reflection of that information. In particular, be sure to address the following two questions:
- How much of a person’s life outcome is the result of the opportunities and constraints provided by the society in which they live?
- In what ways does the information provided in these chapters and other readings change or reinforce your thinking about the world? Will it impact your behavior in any way?
