08 Aug A major song detailing the difficulties of addiction is a good thing on various levels because it’s not something we often see within popular music.
Post one of your favorite current songs. It can be just fun, inspirational, relaxing, etc. Make sure to explain why you like.
Note, try to make sure your song (and video, if including one) is minimally problematic. For example, Lil Xan has seen a meteoric rise in popularity of late, especially on the song “Betrayed,” wherein he details his struggle with his addiction to Xanax. A major song detailing the difficulties of addiction is a good thing on various levels because it’s not something we often see within popular music. Simultaneously, though, the lyrics themselves include some very misogynistic components. I’m not saying don’t pick this, but thinking critically about what the song is actually about is important here. (If it has a video, obviously you need to think doubly about this.)

Forest Swords (aka Matthew Barnes) wrote this as a piece for dance. The songs that make up the whole can be a bit disconcerting (including the use of what I believe are quick inhalations of breath as a sample). Alongside this, the dance is very indicative of modern dance with a heavy focus on the body movement that isn’t concerned with being “pretty” or even elegant, but meant to convey a feeling. This is further stressed by the way in which the dance is staged (directional lights, smoke machines, darkness, and a loosely drawn circle to demarcate the space). While these (both the music and the dance performance) may not be something that everyone enjoys, I find it to be a very interesting and enjoyable modern piece.
