Write a 2-3 page analytical response to a scholarly article of your choice. The article you select must:
- discuss a work of literature from Modules 5, 6, or 7
- be drawn from a scholarly journal of Literature or Literary Studies
To complete this assignment, you must first research a SCHOLARLY essay using a database found in your campus online library (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.). Be sure to select an article that discusses a work of literature that you are confident you understand. Be sure the article has a clear and specific thesis that you comprehend, and be sure the article argues a thesis to which you have a definite critical response.
This paper is worth 100 points and 10 percent of your final grade.
The essay should have TWO parts:
- A 1-2 paragraph summary of the argument presented in the essay: This section should begin with a clear signal phrase, and then state the thesis of the essay. It should then fairly summarize the main parts of the writer’s argument.
- Your own critical response to the argument: This section should begin with a clear topic sentence that agrees with, disagrees with, or qualifies the thesis of the writer’s argument, and then should explain your reasoning in 2-3 organized paragraphs. Remember a “critical response” evaluates and replies to the argument.
