:Topic Subject: Healthcare coverage for postpartum women. Postpartum Medicaid coverage should be increase from 6 months to 12 months for Texas moms to decrease the rate of postpartum anxiety, depression and even substance use.
Existing Policy: The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 133 (Links to an external site.), a TMA-backed measure that provided women enrolled in pregnancy-related Medicaid with six months of postpartum coverage, up from the current two months.
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT
relating to the Medicaid eligibility of certain women after a pregnancy.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 32.024, Human Resources Code, is amended by adding Subsection (l-1) to read as follows:
(l-1) The commission shall continue to provide medical assistance to a woman who is eligible for medical assistance for pregnant women for a period of not less than 12 months following the date the woman delivers or experiences an involuntary miscarriage.
