“Quality in the clinical laboratory is the guarantee of every step and every test that you do. For example, my mom told me,” in the lab, you must be sure of the test results. If I say to the doctor the patient’s test results are positive and it turns out to be negative and the doctor is already cutting the patient in surgery, it is going to be my job on the line.” The first level is quality of inspection, second level is statistical quality control which is also known as product control and inspection third level is quality assurance which is also known as process control and the fourth level is quality as a competitive strategy which is also known as total quality management. Quality assurance (QA) is any systematic process of determining whether a product or service meets specified requirements. QA establishes and maintains set requirements for developing or manufacturing reliable products. Quality control is a process by which entities review the quality of all factors involved in production. ISO 9000 defines quality control as “A part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality requirements”. PT is also known as inter-laboratory com- parison and it is the testing of unknown samples. A quality management system (QMS) is defined as a formalized system that documents processes, procedures, and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives. Quality system is a specific implementation of quality philosophies/concepts, standards, methodologies and tools, for the purpose of achieving quality-related goals. When implemented, a quality system will be unique to an organization. A quality management system (QMS) is the outermost ring of the target, which encompasses all the management activities needed to ensure that the laboratory’s workflow proceeds smoothly to provide laboratory services to customers and patients. “
