Students are required to submit a reflection of their own experiences with recruitment & selection (or those of a family member/friend). Applying what you’ve learned in this course about recruitment and selection and based on your experience (or your family member’s/friend’s experience) with applying to an organization, you will answer a series of questions.
The questions for part 1 are as follows:
- Briefly discuss what job you applied for and at what company. (The job must relate to major of commerce)
- How did you hear about the opportunity (i.e., what recruitment method was used)? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this type of recruitment method?
- What core competencies and job-specific competencies were required?
- Did you have to complete any selection tests? Do you think it was appropriate/relevant for the job? Why or why not? If not, what would be a more relevant selection test for this job? (If you did not complete a selection test, what would be a relevant test for this job and why?)
Formatting:
Maximum of 2 pages, Times 12-point font, double spaced. No need to repeat the questions, but make sure to number your responses to the questions. Quality is more important than quantity in your writing!
Grading Criteria:
Similar to your group assignments, you will be marked on the following:
- clarity (how clearly do you express your ideas? Do you elaborate on your examples?;
- completeness (did you answer all required parts?);
- and knowledge of course material (does your response demonstrate that you understand course concepts?)
