The Scenario: You have just been hired at a publishing house that markets books to teachers.
Your Task: Your first task at your new job is to create three entries for a book catalog. Before beginning, you should visit the websites of a few academic publishers to get an idea of the style and tone of the book descriptions, such as Princeton University Press and Cambridge University Press
Select THREE texts used in Topics 2 and 3 of this course and develop catalog entries for each text. Your goal should be to convince new teachers to adopt these texts in their secondary education classrooms.
Use themes discussed in class to show new teachers the value of using each text. Do the following:
- Explain how the texts you select can help teachers teach students the main works of the literary period of Puritan writing and the historical, cultural, and political events that gave rise to it. Be sure to discuss the tenets of Puritanism, the place of women in Puritan New England, and how Puritanism influences themes of American literature.
- Analyze the aspects of the text that will help teachers meet at least one of their secondary education objectives.(Find the appropriate standards from the state of Arizona or the state you live in that apply to this subject. The standards can be found that the state’s Department of Education website.)
- (Catalog entries typically feature an author photograph and/or a book cover image.)
- Each catalog entry should contain 350 to 400 words (not including bibliographic information).
