Question 1: Review the classmates’ posts and respond to at least one in a minimum of 150 words. Explain why you agree or disagree. Then, share an example from your professional experience to support your assertions.

The inferences and assumptions exercise called for attention to detail. It forced the reader to critically think about the story. The story itself was simple to read but offered a lot of grey area left up to the interpretation of the reader. This ambiguity allowed the reader to make assumptions and inferences about the statements based on their own perception. According to Diestler (2019) “Finding hidden assumptions in arguments is like reading or watching mysteries; you accumulate clues from what people say and then make guesses about the important things they believe but aren’t directly stating.” (p. 75). From my experience in risk management, I have been taught to look deeper into investigations and review multiple perspectives to conduct a thorough and complete investigation. Based on the information provided and my interpretation of the information I was on able to answer 2 questions with a True or False answer with a slight comfortable level of certainty.

The first question I felt comfortable answering based off the information provide in the article was question number 3 related to the man who appeared. According to the story he demanded money, so I marked this as false. The second question I felt comfortable answering based off the information provided was question number 6. This question was related to someone opening the cash register, the story stated that the owner opened it, but could he not be the owner and someone. Diestler (2019) stated, “As critical thinkers, we need to actively discover and then question the assumptions underlying arguments so we are not building arguments on a false foundation” (p. 85). The other 9 questions were listed as unknown because more information was needed for me to be comfortable making an inference.

There is some agreement regarding the fact that critical thinking is necessary in order for students to be better leaders in society. Effective critical thinking skills mean better reasoning ability and enhanced decision-making skills, which are necessary to propel an individual forward. Creativity and critical thinking are intertwined as an approach since one does not work without the other. While the focus was on certain disciplines such as liberal arts, it is necessary to think about all disciplines and these important skills. As individuals, it is important to evaluate our thinking and identify ways in which we can improve. Paul and Elder expressed the fact that, it is by our acknowledgment of our mediocre thinking that we can improve ourselves to think better (Cooper, 2018, p. 2). Being able to reason and rationalize situations identify intellectual traits that are derived from our ability to think from another perspective.

The approach to creativity is identical to that of the critical thinker. Creative minds think broadly and are laden with ideas and solutions. According to the author, creativity is the ability to generate new ideas and concepts which will contribute to new possibilities (Cooper, 2018). Society has however aligned the word with that of the arts and the process of making something but it is far more in depth as a creative mind seeks to accomplish a sense of fulfillment towards an idea or approach. To achieve this sense of fulfillment, then critical thinking must also be implemented. In retrospect, everyone has the ability to be creative critically but it takes perseverance and an openness to new possibilities.
