2/19/2021 – FORUM FRIDAYS: "THE NEGROTARIANS"

This week’s lecture surveyed the Harlem Renaissance, which was an intellectual, social, and artistic explosion centered in Harlem, New York. The Harlem Renaissance was one of the greatest byproducts of the Great Migration. The illumination of black culture in the areas of music, the visual arts and literature attracted many “Negrotarians.” “Negrotarians” was the label given (by Zora Neale Hurston) to white people, who spent a lot of time in Harlem enjoying black culture. In 2-4 sentences, please share your thoughts on the “Negrotarians” and their presence in Harlem during the 1920s and 30s.
