Module 1 Discussion

Describe the differences and similarities between research and evidence practice. Which comes first, research or evidence-based practice? Include practice examples with your posts.

This discussion post requires two steps:

Step 1:  Submit  your completed initial response, [MS Word document or equivalent] to the Assignment folder “Discussion Post Originality Check”  for Turnitin similarity checking. Click on the ‘Assignments’ link in the course navigation bar to locate the assignment folder. You are required to achieve an acceptable similarity score before proceeding to step two.  See the Course Resources module’s subfolder ‘Turnitin’ for policy and algorithm (acceptable score) details.

Step 2:  Post your initial response by Wednesday at midnight. Respond to one student by Sunday at midnight.  Both responses must be a minimum of 150 words, scholarly written, APA formatted, and referenced.  A minimum of 2 references are required (other than your text). Refer to grading rubric for online discussion.

Note: your instructor may require following these steps in a future discussion topic at their discretion.

Module 2 Discussion

Identify a phenomenon (clinical problem) of interest.  Formulate a clinically-based problem and purpose statement related to the problem using a PICOT format.

Module 3 Discussion

Please post your PICOT question from the Module 2 Discussion. What is the best research method to answer your question? Be sure to note that a “qualitative design” does not relate to quality (e.g., quality of life outcomes). It is a method that uses open-ended questions (rather than close-ended questions used in quantitative studies). The intent for both qualitative and quantitative methods it to improve quality care outcomes.

Module 6 Discussion

Find a quantitative research article related to the topic of your PICOT.  Upload a copy of your article. Do not just post a link to the article.

Address each of these areas:

Identifying Information (Journal, Year, Title, Authors)

Authors qualifications to write the article (credentials, professional affiliations).

The problem addressed in the study

The purpose of the study

The research question (s) (and/or hypothesis) used in the study.

Review of current and relevant literature (date range, types of studies)

Sampling procedures

Design and methods used in the study

Ethical issues/IRB (informed consent)

Methods for data collection and analysis. What “tests” were run to analyze data? What software was used in the data analysis process?

Findings

Generalizability of findings

Study limitations

Contributions to nursing research and practice

Research/Evidence Based Practice Project Part I

The major project for this course is a hypothetical research proposal. You will not actually implement this proposal. However, if you go on to complete your DNP or PhD this type of study would be developed and implemented as part of your program.

The proposal will be implemented in three parts as listed below.

Part one is due at the end of week three. Part two is due at the end of week eight, and part three is due at the end of week 11. You will discuss your proposal with peers and your instructor during the discussion 12.

Part one is worth 15% of your course grade, part two is worth 20% of your course grade and part three is worth 30% of your course grade.

Please follow the grading rubric for written assignments which can be found in the course resource section.

Research/EBP Proposal Part I

This paper is to be written as a formal paper using APA format. Address the following:

Background of the problem addressed

Significance of the problem addressed in the proposal (what will happen if we don’t address?)

One sentence problem statement (The problem addressed in this proposal is )

One sentence purpose statement (The purpose of this proposal is to ….

PICOT question/hypotheses

Literature Review

This paper is to be written as a formal paper using APA format with the literature review matrix inserted as an Appendix (refer to APA manual for formatting an Appendix in a paper).

Find 10 research articles (quantitative or qualitative, no metanalysis or non-research), peer-reviewed, published in scholarly journals. Note: You can look at individual articles used in a meta-analysis.

Complete the Literature Review Matrix (evidence table) using the template provided.

Data is summarized, no quotes (do not just copy and paste into boxes)
