Prompt #1/Essay #1
For this first essay, compose an essay wherein you discuss the importance of Hesiod’s Theogony in terms of both the cosmogony and cosmology of the ancient Greeks, as well as any differences implied by Hesiod’s Prometheus (Archaic Period) and that of Aeschylus (Classical Period). In your discussion, be sure to identify the primary archetypes in Greek origin mythology important to the ascension of Zeus, including the significance of the birth of Athene.
In our study of the mythology, including Hesdiod’s Theogony, we learned how origin myths define both the cosmogony–an account of the universe’s physical origin and organization–and cosmology–a metaphysical statement about the universe’s nature and purpose–of the ancient Greeks.
This essay should be a thesis-driven argument which cites and explains relevant source materials from the lessons and myths provided in this course shell. It should make every attempt to conform to MLA format and should be approximately 1,000 – 1,500 words in length, or 4-6 pages, not including the works cited page.
