Due Date: 11:59 pm EST Sunday of Unit 3 Points: 100

Overview:

While sexually transmitted infections affect individuals of all ages, they are particularly

concerning among young people. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

(CDC) estimates that adolescents and young adults, ages 15 to 24, account for about

10 million new sexually transmitted infections that occur in the United States each year.

That is about half of the new infections diagnosed annually, even though adolescents

and young adults account for only about one quarter of the sexually active population.

Suppose you are developing a public awareness campaign on sexually transmitted

infections. Your target audience is middle and late adolescents, and you plan to use

social media. The CDC website will provide you with the information you need.

Instructions:

Develop social media materials that include the following information:

• Visit the CDC website and select one of the STIs listed.

• What are the signs and symptoms of the STI?

• How can you describe them in a way that gets the point across to your

audience without being overly graphic or sensationalistic?

• What are the potential short- and long-term implications if an STI goes

untreated?

• What should young people do if they think they might have an STI?

• Where should they go? What clinics are there in your community?

• What kind of treatments might they expect?

• What can the youth do to protect themselves for STIs?

Come up with the best format ideas (videos, infographics, memes, or other methods)

that will provide the information you collected above. Be creative and informative.
