The study uses a qualitative research design. Qualitative research help to understand why and how. Qualitative approaches are used when a question requires an explanation instead of a simple yes or no reply. overall, qualitative research focuses more on examples than variables and emphasizes more on recognizing variations than calculating the mean response. The viewpoint of the person being studied is essential to a qualitative investigation. In the study being discussed, for example, the researchers aimed to address the information demands of carers and physicians and to lessen present information blockades when looking after children with medical complexity (CMC).
In order to address the information demands of carers and physicians and to lessen existing information barriers when looking after CMC, Desai et al. (2018) set parameters for shared care plans. Comprehensive semistructured interviews with carers and CMC providers who obtain care at a tertiary children's care hospital were done using a user-centered design technique. When caring for CMC, it identified four requirements for shared care plans: supporting availability of care plans from numerous settings and devices with alert and search aspects, including cooperative functionality like instantaneous, multiuser content management, and safe messaging, guaranteeing the organization is personalized to the specific user, and storing care plans.
Based on the R8360 guidelines, the research effectively passes the test since it effectively describes the phenomenon, which is CMC and reducing barriers. It also effectively identifies the problem, which in this case is information barriers among carers. Additionally, the research effectively describes the sampling strategy, where the study used purposive sampling to recruit its participants based on their demographics so that it could have a diverse range of perspectives. The sampling method fits the approach as it allows the study to gain insight into various personal experiences, which is essential in qualitative research. Overall, the research can be applauded for its procedure, sampling and methods.
