1. A series of research studies conducted in Romania found that exposing patients to natural light and fresh air markedly improved the rate of healing. A group of hospitals in Detroit were unable to reproduce these same findings. Imagine that both of these studies were published in the same medical journal, of course at different times, and they were both reviewed by peers. What would be the most likely explanation for the difference between these studies? Assume that you will submit a Research Proposal to your Faculty Chair to determine why this occurred- what steps would you take?
2.The term “level of analysis” is really pointing to items such as location, size, or scale of the focus of the research. One thing to be aware of is that this type of analysis if different than “units of observation” because it refers to integrated relationships.
Analysis at the micro level works with the smallest unit of analysis which is an individual in a social setting. Some examples are stateless persons, asylum seekers, households, marriages, and families. Macro-level analysis looks at outcomes of different interactions.
