Post 1: Tell briefly how Titchener’s approach to psychology differed from Wundt’s. If you could work as a student in one of their laboratories, who would it be and why? (There is no right or wrong answer.) Write 5-15 sentences.

Titchener and Wundy mainly differed in their approach to psychology in regard to their view of the conscious, with Wundt looking at the conscious as a whole (his apperception approach) and Titchener looking at the conscious as pieces of a whole (his structuralism approach). They also differed in their views of women in psychology, with Wundt discouraging them from the field and Titchener working to actively promote their place in the field. It is for this progressive view that I believe I would have rather worked as a student in Titcheners laboratory, being able to leverage their experiences alongside the ones I might have as a man. In addition, Titchener broke the conscious into several parts of cognition, allowing one to have a more complete view of the mental processes that form our minds. This falls in line with my beliefs of psychology, that there are a number of quantifiable and observable elements that create one complete picture. Titchener also adopted the experimental approach to psychological testing, which would lead to more accurate and valid results in his experiments.
