As you develop your ideas, keep in mind the notes of caution provided by Ian Hacking in The Social Construction of What? Specifically, make sure that you focus on the construction of ideas rather than things. In addition, you may want to consider your level of commitment? as Hacking describes it?is your intention merely to unmask and reveal a feature of social life that is taken-for-granted? and treated as natural/organic rather than constructed, or would you like to generate a call to action? Whatever your decision, make it explicit in the writing of your final product. The link between your analysis of texts and the impact of social meanings on the health of individuals or populations should be a clear and central thesis of your writing.
