Discussion- GROUP MODELS
Types of social work groups include treatment groups—which are the primary focus of the course—and task groups. When you think of treatment groups, you may think of grief support, self-help such as Alcoholics Anonymous, or group therapy to change harmful behavior. Treatment groups serve many more purposes than these, including education and information sharing, socialization, and personal growth. Such groups have historically followed three primary models—the social goals model, the remedial model, and the reciprocal model—each with a different role and focus for the social worker.
In this Discussion, you compare two of these models and consider theories that a social worker could apply with them.

- Reflect on the remedial and reciprocal models of group work and which theories might align with each.
BY DAY 3
Compare the remedial and reciprocal models of group work. In your comparison, provide an example of each group. Then, identify and explain one theory you would use to approach each type of group as a social worker.
