The FAA throws a lot of caution to the wind, especially when considering  there are no break down lanes in the sky.  Would this practice of  turning off electronic devices during takeoff and landing also be due to  the fact the new electronic devices are released to consumers on a  regular basis, which make the process of verifying their safety  virtually impossible?
