Scenario
Imagine you have been hired as a new health care manager for a local health care system. You have been asked to develop a presentation for your board about consumers and their health care choices. In completing this presentation, you will demonstrate skill in regulatory environment application as you analyze the impact of government regulations on the health care consumer and consider how the organization can respond to the changing environment. You will also analyze how health care organizations and consumers share information.
Preparation
Select a health care company or product to use as an example during your presentation.
Choose 1 of the following companies or products to use in your presentation:
o Health spa launching a new medically supervised weight-loss treatment
o Insurance company launching a new medical product for the health insurance exchange
o Hospital system launching a new diabetes-maintenance program
o Medical device manufacturer launching a new metal alloy prosthesis
o Health care company and product of your choice with approval from your instructor
Assessment Deliverable
Create a 12- to 15-slide presentation to your board that includes the following:
o Section 1: General Company or Product Information
o Describe the selected health care company or product.
o Describe the value of the services offered by your selected health care company or product.
o Section 2: Consumer Information
o Analyze how consumers share health information through the company or the product (e.g., messaging through patient portals or app).
o Analyze the implications for consumers of communication methods used when sharing health information. Consider communication from physicians, pharmacies, and consumers when information is shared.
o Section 3: Impact of Outside Agencies
o Using the company or product you selected and their health care sector, analyze the impact government agencies have on services offered or products that are available to the health care consumer. For example, a manufacturer of durable medical equipment will be subject to different regulations and government oversight than a medical waste management company.
o Section 4: Impact of Regulations
o Analyze the effect of past and current health care reform on the health care consumer who uses your selected company or product (e.g., insurance coverage of preexisting conditions or requirements of hospitals to publish prices).
o Section 5: Anticipating the Changing Market
o Explain how consumers’ options for health care are changing. Consider if it will have an impact on the use of your selected company or product.
o Explain how you will ensure the selected health care company or product will be relevant and engaging to the consumer over time. Consider how advances in technology and medicine may influence the use of the company or product over time.
Include a title slide, a reference slide, and detailed speaker notes of at least 50 words per slide.
Format your presentation and references according to APA guidelines.
