Start Assignment

MATHS 302 explores the forces that shape our mathematical experiences. Some of these forces may have been beyond your control when you were younger, but now you are in a position to teach/tutor mathematics yourself. Write a 1500 word (±10%) essay in which you make one specific recommendation for mathematics teaching and/or learning. Justify your recommendation by describing and analysing one of your experiences through the lens of mathematics education ideas drawn from at least three of the readings from weeks 1-5.

In this course, students are prohibited from using artificial intelligence text generation software, such as ChatGPT, on their assessments.

Essays will be checked for plagiarism and cheating with disciplinary outcomes for any student who has been found to plagiarise and/or cheat. It is NOT worth the risk.

Notes:

1. It must be evident that you are not just recounting your personal history, but are drawing on mathematics education readings to review and reflect on those experiences to propose and justify a recommendation.

2. Readings must be cited correctly in the body of the essay, and listed using APA referencing at the end of the essay in a reference list. The final reference list is not included in the word count. Follow this link (https://www.cite.auckland.ac.nz/1.html) for the University of Auckland’s advice on referencing.

3. In developing your ideas for the essay, it could be helpful to discuss your ideas with others. It could also be useful to work together in the editing process to check your essay flows and is free of grammatical errors. However, your essay needs to be your own work. It is your responsibility to avoid plagiarism. Follow this link (https://www.cite.auckland.ac.nz/7.html) for the University of Auckland’s advice on avoiding plagiarism.

4. Structure your essay with a title, introduction, paragraphs, and conclusion. Use the first person singular (I) in your writing.

Please submit your essay online via CANVAS as a word file.
